The media crisis (TL;DR)
Groups in power use the media to further their agenda and profit. With no accountability and care for the viewers, they can and will say anything. Social media platforms are also owned by the same so called elite and can change their rules any time without warning*. The world is so complex now that our only realistic way to understand important things and events are various media channels. Because of this monopoly over information, the media has become the most influential force. Given this kind of power, we can't afford a corrupt media-situation that we cannot even control.
* the exceptions are very weak compared to the whole media landscape
1. The real client
What goes on in the media is decided by a group of select people and algorithms. Platforms and creators have to serve their advertisers.
2. One-way street
The groups in power are pushing their narratives, only pretending to be listening. We want to be included and respected instead of talked at. Social media is no different, just a bit more subtle.
3. Tools
Filtering information, twisting narratives, and inventing "truth". Content that is only pretending to be important. Noise, gimmicks, distraction.
4. The media is the key
The world is complex and it moves fast. We need the media like we need our senses to understand it. That is why it is the most powerful force. It controls what happens in the world — by controlling what we see. We can ignore it, but that would make us blind.
5. Corruption of the media
But if the wrong things are pushed through the media, those very things will push out the truly important: the needs and well-being (of the majority) of the people.
6. The only way you run the show
But even paid platforms and movies push someone's agenda. The media should provide a clear picture of the world, a compass. To make sure of that, you have to be able to control your own media directly.
